Southampton goalkeeper Ollie Wright has signed a new three-year contract before joining League Two side Gillingham on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has committed his future to Saints until 2029, extending his association with the club he joined at under-10s.

What happened?

Wright will now continue his development at Priestfield after an impressive season on loan at Accrington Stanley, scooping awards in League Two.

He made 47 appearances in the league and was named both the Players' Player of the Season and Manager's Player of the Season.

Why it matters for Southampton

This loan spell is Wright's sixth away from St Mary's, having previously gained experience with Bath City, Worthing, Yeovil Town, and Solihull Moors.
