Caspar Jander is expected to be available for Southampton's sold-out south coast derby against Portsmouth next month. The midfielder will not feature in tomorrow's Championship trip to Wrexham as he completes his recovery from a pre-season injury.
Head coach Tonda Eckert confirmed the timeline, stating Jander requires one more week of preparation. "He’s not going to be ready for tomorrow, but I am very sure that he will be involved in the first game after the break," Eckert said. That first game is the midday kick-off against Portsmouth at St Mary's on Sunday 11th October.
Jander has been sidelined since limping out of a pre-season friendly win over Eastleigh in July. His impending return is a boost for a Southampton side sitting 10th in the Championship with 10 points from seven games. They travel to face 19th-placed Wrexham tomorrow looking to extend a two-game winning run that includes a 4-1 victory over Bristol City last time out.
In a further fitness update, Eckert confirmed that Flynn Downes is fine after being substituted at half-time during that Bristol City win. Following the Wrexham match, the team enters a three-week international break before the highly anticipated derby.
