Rasmus Ankersen has stepped down from his role as a director at Southampton. He will stay on as a co-owner but is now less involved in the daily operations of the Championship club. Ankersen, who is also the chief executive of the club's main owner Sport Republic, confirmed the move in a statement. His involvement with Southampton has decreased in recent times after he assumed the presidency of Turkish Super Lig team Goztepe, which is also part of the Sport Republic group. He continues to have a role in player recruitment for Southampton.
Before this, Ankersen was employed at Brentford for several years, a stint that ended with the club's rise to the Premier League. Sport Republic, which is controlled by Serbian businessman Dragan Solak, owns most of Southampton, French club Valenciennes, and Goztepe, who are at the foot of the Turkish top division.
The boardroom shift occurs with Southampton positioned in the middle of the Championship standings. Their recent performances include several wins and draws from their last few matches, with a significant win in their most recent game.
