Southampton FC's Seniors Saints project is making strides in the community by securing nearly £500,000 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. This significant financial boost will help the project continue its vital work in reducing loneliness and improving the wellbeing of older adults in Southampton. Over the next three years, the funding will support four community hubs located in areas where older residents face significant health inequalities. These hubs, run by the Saints Foundation, offer welcoming spaces for physical activities, social connections, and health support. Last season, the Seniors Saints initiative engaged over 450 older adults, with 80% reporting reduced loneliness or increased physical activity. One inspiring story is that of Jean, who found renewed joy and connection after joining the program. Paul Hedges, Health Projects Manager for Saints Foundation, expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing its importance in providing friendship and practical help to older residents. The Seniors Saints sessions run from Monday to Thursday, offering a variety of activities to help older adults stay active and connected in Southampton.
