Southampton will face West Ham United in the Carabao Cup second round at St Mary's Stadium on Tuesday evening, seeking to build on their recent form. The Saints have been in good shape, with a 3-0-2 record in their last five matches, including a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on May 12, 2026.
West Ham United are looking to return to winning ways after being beaten 2-1 by Charlton Athletic in the EFL Championship at the weekend. The Hammers head to Hampshire seeking to bounce back from their loss.
Why it Matters for Southampton
Southampton now play at St Mary's Stadium, which is situated just a short distance from St Mary's Church, where St Mary's Young Men's Association FC was formed. In 1897, the club took the name Southampton FC. With a capacity of 32,384, it is the largest stadium in the south of England outside London.
Our 3,008 supporters travelling to the game will be seated in the corner between the Chapel and Kingsland Stands. As is the case with so many football stadia these days, it is recommended that supporters take public transport, rather than driving to the game. If you are heading down from London, it's a simple journey. Services leave Waterloo Station every 30 minutes at.05 and.35 past the hour and take just 75 minutes to reach Southampton Central. From there, it's a signposted 15-minute walk to St Mary's. If you'd rather, there is a shuttle bus from Central station to St Mary's (and back again after the game) which costs £2 each way.

Southampton currently sit 4th in the Championship, with 80 points from 46 games, and a recent form of WDWDD. They are 15 points behind leaders Coventry and have a goal difference of +26, with 82 goals scored and 56 conceded.
What to Expect
The tie marks just the second meeting between the Irons and the Saints in the Football League Cup competition. Tony Cottee scored but Harry Redknapp's West Ham were beaten 2-1 by Dave Merrington's Southampton at The Dell in the third round in October 1995.
