Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is reportedly on Celtic's radar as the transfer window nears its close. The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City, could be set for a move to Parkhead. Southampton finished 4th in the Championship last season with 80 points, 15 points behind leaders Coventry, and are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is looking to add competition for current first-choice goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo. The Finnish keeper has impressed since replacing Kasper Schmeichel, but O'Neill wants another experienced option. Bazunu, who has not featured for Southampton this season, fits the bill with his Premier League experience and international pedigree.
Bazunu started the 2025/26 season as Southampton's first-choice goalkeeper but lost his place to Daniel Peretz in January. He was then sent on loan to Stoke City, where he made just six appearances due to a persistent thigh injury. The 6ft 2in keeper is still highly rated and could be a valuable addition to Celtic's squad.
With Bazunu potentially leaving, Southampton will need to consider their goalkeeper options. They have Daniel Peretz and George Long as their current keepers, but may look to bring in another option before the transfer window closes. Southampton's last result was a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on 12th May 2026, and they will be looking to build on that form when they face Bolton at home on 17th October 2026.
