Southampton Ready to Sack Tonda Eckert if He Faces Extended Ban
Southampton will consider sacking their manager Tonda Eckert if he receives an extended ban for his role in the Spygate scandal, according to former Everton chief Keith Wyness. The club's stance is expected to be dictated by the severity of the punishment.
Eckert's Potential Fate
Eckert was recently charged with misconduct by the FA due to his involvement in sending staff members to spy on Championship rivals last season. Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes that Southampton’s chairman Dragan Solak will already have a plan in place depending on the scale of Eckert's punishment.
Wyness suggests that if Eckert is banned for more than three months, Southampton may be forced to part ways with their manager. However, he notes that the club could manage without a manager for up to three months. In the event of a suspended ban, Wyness expects Southampton to continue supporting Eckert.
Club's Stance and Future Plans
Southampton’s hierarchy has stood by Eckert so far, with chairman Dragan Solak expressing his support. Wyness explains that if Eckert is banned for most of the season, it would be impossible for Southampton to function without a manager for such an extended period.
